Living the low-wage life: Wal-Mart workers.
Through much research, study, and interpertation, I have came to the conclusion that there is a major problem with the way Wal-Mart treats their employees. From sexual discrimination to unfair pay, employees have united to form protests and campaigns that reference specific unfair treatment. Wal-Mart has over 3,500 hundred stores, millions of customers, but more importantly, 1.4 million workers. The workers demand dignity and respect. Wal-Mart has caused multiple cases and law suits to be brought up, including the biggest sexual discrimination suit against any company in the history of the United States. Each of my pages has facts that conclude Wal-Mart is involved with illegal activity. "Horror" stories have been told in order to gain the readers interest and heart. These stories involve some sexual discrmination, as well as other inappropiate and illegal behavior by Wal-Mart executives and general managers. Wal-Mart employees are fighting against not only their sex or pay, but their health care as well. Only 48% of Wal-Mart employees are covered by health care, and there pay is substantially less then the minimum to run a three person family. However, this web page descibes both sides, the accusations and beliefs of the workers, as well as the benefits and policies of Wal-Mart, coming directly from their main site. In this site, you get a well-rounded perspective on the issue, seeing offensive and defensive statements, which all entails you to leave my site with an educated understanding and opinion on the issue at hand.
Here it is, have fun!

I said it once before and I still feel it should be emphasized, that Bradley's section on ways one can do something about the problem with Wal-Mart is exceptional. Almost all of the sites have sections describing proposed solutions, but I did not come across any as well done as this was. The goal of the site is to describe a problem and it only makes sense to propose a solution to that problem; however, this site has taken it a step further by making the reader of the site a possible contributor to the solution.
I LOVED this site! Not only was it interesting and exciting, it is also exceptional at the amount of information it presents. With the personal stories, the horror stories as well as the facts and research shown, your site seems very credible and believable. I also like your design choices. The pictures that have been created to “talk down” to Walmart are very entertaining and overall I think it’s a great site. Usually, most people just skim the site but I actually found myself reading everything. I think you put a lot of time into the site and it really showed. Good job!
In my opinion, the best feature of the website is how incredibly comprehensive it is. There is information on every single aspect of Wal-Mart, including the history, the supposed benefits, actual stories of people who work there etc. I liked this site because I felt like I could spend a great deal of time reading and learning about Wal-Mart and it really inspired me to act. Not only is there a great part of the site that shows where to go for more information on how to “act” against Wal-Mart, but I have just decided to try and never support the chain. Had I not seen this site, I would likely not have understood the depth of the chain’s faults.
If I were to engage in another quarter of work, I would have to say I would actually go to Wal-Mart and interview multiple employees about their job experience there. I want to actually see the problem at hand, not just read about it from second hand sources. I want to be there, close and personal to the problem. I feel that some of my pages are just research. However, some pages include stories and facts with are very disturbing not only to me, but hopefully that users as well. I want good and bad stories. I don't want to be bias and read an article by an employee that had a bad run in with a manager. I want to interview them myself, allowing no room for bias in my website assignment. I also would like to talk to one of the top executives of Wal-Mart, seeing where they stand on the whole issue. Maybe some executives actually believe that Wal-Mart treats their employee's unfairly? I want to be there, in person, taking on the information first hand and relaying the information to the users that look at my page.
Another last thing I would like to add is that on my story page, I would like more stories, but this time include themes. These themes would entail multiple feelings, if not elements such as sexual discrimination, and unfair treatment, etc. I want people to see the emotion first hand, and be able to read and engage in the stories which will overall have a great theme.
I think another very good site content wise is the site on Walmart employees. This site does a lot of very through research and is especially good at displaying the information the author has found. Examples of how the author has portrayed the information are through pages about the law and restrictions that are place on the corporations to protect their employees. Along with interviews that are the most helpful when it comes to driving the point across of how bad things are working at a place like Walmart. That works especially well because it puts a face and a voice to the complaint about the company.
