Restaurant Servers
My website discusses what the living wage is and how food servers are affected by it. My biggest influence on the content of the website was Barbara Ehrenreich's book Nickel and Dimed: on not getting by in America. Her book, as well as my work as a server over the summer, inspired me to do my living wage webpage about that particular line of work. I touched on many aspects of the job definition and how as well as why many servers fall under the low wage category. Parts of my site go through with great detail the life of a server and how many things go along with that life that many people do not expect. For anyone, being a server is a straining and draining job, and only making minimum wage from that tends to be frustrating.

What is more frustrating is that for some people, it's the only choice. I feel like it gives a good cross view and could be an eye opener to anyone who doesn't know much about the living wage situation and servers, just as Ehrenreich's book is to me. --Francine Reid

The Day in the Life story is something that I have not seen in anyone elses page. It works in the same way as the interactive sites we looked at a few weeks ago. It is a very creative and useful idea and I think it was executed very well. One suggestion I could make is to put a nav. bar at the top because it is pretty long and people might get restless. But overall I think the story was great, very creative and interesting.
I found your page "A day in the life" to be extremly effective. While other websites you can quickly skim through the pages, i felt that this one made the reader pay close attention. This was because the text was not overwhelming so you read it and then had to click next to get to the next part of the story. I felt that since you made it relate to the viewer's life it is more effective than just giving facts on a page.
The best and most innovative part of the website is the story that you take the readers through in the day of the life of a restaurant server. It is visually stimulating and interesting. It makes you feel for the server and gives an insight to the troubles that a restaurant server goes through daily. You make a good point that people often do not understand how many people servers are dealing with. It not only addresses servers by relating to them, but customers because it offers a point of how they sometimes act.
ewwww... this is good. the sojourn/story type thing really caught me and behind that you had great great stuff, the statistical info was good and the quotes in your annontated bibliography helped summarize the overall opinion of the articles, that was a super idea.
I found this site to be especially interesting because it provides an interactive story-telling section that takes the viewer through hypothetical situation with a waitress. This is an awesome feature of the website because it forces viewers to sit and think about the back story of the average waiter, which many people fail to do. Also, it provides an attention-grabbing way of getting the viewer locked into the site for a few extra minutes. As for the rest of the website, I really enjoyed the layout of the pages, as they were easy to follow and had a solid theme stringing them together.
If I had more time to work on this website there is definately a lot more I would add to it. First, I would spend a lot more time perfecting it and trying to make it look as professional as possible. As far as content goes, I would definately put together a few interviews to add more truth and substance to my website. As a take off of interviews, I would probably add a few personal accounts (horror story type blurbs) of being in the serving industry. I would do further research on low wage/living wage to show a wider knowlede on the subject.
