Women in Islam

For my site I have chosen to discuss the lives of women in Islamic societies and how religion and culture affects them. The opening is a click-thru sequence of pictures of women in traditional dress and statements that are meant to make the viewer consider how they perceive Islamic women. The background is done in black with coral text to show the contrast between oppression and femininity present in the life of these women. I have not included much text at this point because I have chosen a topic separate from our original prompt, but I have completed a review of the literature and an annotated bibliography. I have done quite a bit of research both online and in concrete documents, I just need to incorporate the information I have accumulated into additional pages in the site. http://itrs.scu.edu/faculty/mbousquet/en2spr6/apowers/

I think your introduction really gives your site an amazing start that captures the pure meaning of your site. That introduction is such a creative way, that gives the user a chance to read simple captions, but also to engage and visualize the material about to be displayed. Those first couple questions really intrigued me in a sense that I wanted to learn more. My education on the subject is limited, and your website did a perfect job explaining those questions purposed in the introduction. The original intro is the key to your site, which leads into substantial information that gives the user a sense of accomplishment, where he finds the answers to those questions. Great site! AMAZING INTRODUCTION!!

Your first page immediatly grabbed my attention. I thought it was very creative of you how you had links on each of the different pages with the word that me might have thought about the women. After you have clicked through several of these you are then lead to a page with several words all over the place that may also be able to describe a individual. After you go through that type of dramatic introduction you cannot help wanting to learn more.

I liked the opening sequence alot because it is a perfect introduction to the site. It is very artisticly created and gives the viewer a feeling of suspense. The questions make the reader really think about what the topic is and the importance of it. Also, the scattering of words on the last page is really artistic and creative. For many readers, if something doesnt have a good intro they will overlook the rest. You will definitely not have a problem with this. Very well done, I think this is the best intro that I have seen in anyones page so far.

The one thing that stood out about your site is really the introduction. It draws the reader in, and makes them interested in what you have to say. By questioning the reader about what they see, it taps into what they expect about these women and the stereotypes that surround them. Also, the pictures of the women who are looking directly into the camera capture a lot of emotion when paired with the questions. It makes it seem more personal as if she's right there, or asking you the question herself. Probably like most people, I don't know much about these women, and it's your introduction that makes me want to. It's much better than just reading from the start about the women.

You have a great, catching introduction, and your site conveys your message with sense of drama. You also have some great visuals. It was hard pull away!

Your website is unique because of the introduction. It really captured my attention and I felt like I had no choice but to continue on to the rest of your site. Also the part that had the words spread around the page was awesome. I would never have thought of that as a artistic creation but your website really convinced me that it is possible. I also like your site because of the powerful content it has. Not enough people talk about this issue, and it is incredible because like you said there are over 1.2 billion Islamic followers in the world. Thanks for your site, I have learned a lot from it!

The issue never ceases to make my blood boil, and the black and red represent my mood. Bringing up instances from the Qu'ran are great, the issue of respecting the womb brings up some verying opinion of what the correct view is of treatment towards women, the evidence of stoning and what not does a great job that proves shitty treatment towards women.

Your site is amazing. You picked a very dramatic subject and also one that is very hard to approach. I commend you for picking such a difficult topic. I think for such a dramatic subject, you really succeeded at bringing out the important information and letting the facts speak for themselves (if that makes sense..) Your site is also very good at engaging the viewers. It’s very interactive and allows the readers to choose where they want to go. I was also really impressed with the research you did of the Qur’an to bring out the origins of beliefs. Your site is made more credible and I think it has a strong impact.

If I were to continue with my site I would include a blog to capture what people were thinking as they go through the site. From the comments I have gotten so far it is evident that not many people know much about the subject. Accordingly they are surprised when they start learning the facts. It would also be great if the blog could capture some personal experiences of both Islamic women and people who have interacted with them in society.
